Tidewater Community College Learning Resource Center

Virginia Beach, VA

Old Dominion Firestopping provided firestopping at all through-penetrations and fire resistive joints on the 120,000-square-foot facility which includes meeting rooms, a multi-purpose room, cafe, administrative spaces, open commons area, open computer labs, study spaces, a children’s section and a teen area. The facility is LEED Gold certified.

Completed in 2013, the project finished on time with zero injuries. Old Dominion Firestopping contracted with the general contractor, Gilbane Construction, to perform the work.

Medical College of Georgia School of Dentistry

Augusta, GA

Old Dominion Firestopping provided firestopping at mechanical and plumbing through-penetrations and joint systems on the 267,000-square-foot educational facility which includes 332 operatories, including oral surgery suites, along with instructional, meeting and seminar rooms, a study room and lounge.

Completed in 2011, the project finished on time with zero injuries. Old Dominion Firestopping contracted with the general contractor, B E & K Building Group, to perform the work.

University of Richmond Westhampton Residences

Richmond, VA

Old Dominion Firestopping provided firestopping and acoustical sealants at through-penetrations and joint sealants for the 49,000-square-foot, four-story, semi-suite-style residence hall. The brick and limestone façade, custom wood doors and steeply pitched, slate and copper roofs with dormer windows reflect the university’s gothic-style of architecture.

The LEED Silver designed building includes HVAC systems that can be monitored and controlled by a central control system, low-flow plumbing and an electrical system that can be monitored by the energy dashboard.

Completed in 2014, the project finished on time with zero injuries. Old Dominion Firestopping contracted with the general contractor, Donleys, Inc., to perform the work.

Virginia Commonwealth University Brandt Hall

Richmond, VA

Old Dominion Firestopping provided Firestopping services for the 160,000-square-foot, 17-story, high-rise residence hall located in VCU’s Monroe Campus. The building houses 640 students in suite-style configurations. The project includes a 400-ton central plant and four-pipe fan-coil HVAC system.

The residence hall features rooms designed to accommodate double occupancy that include furniture, a sink and mirror in the bedroom space as well as a shared connecting bathroom to another room. The suite arrangements allow four or eight students to share a common living room. A central service desk and mailroom serves two residence towers. The first floor of Brandt Hall has a computer lab, multipurpose activity space and laundry room with a connected study and TV lounge.

Virginia Commonwealth University Snead Hall

Richmond, VA

Old Dominion Firestopping provided firestopping services for Virginia Commonwealth University’s School of Business. Along with traditional classroom and faculty offices, the 145,000 square-foot, four-story facility includes a fully-functioning capital markets and trading room, collaborative learning rooms, central atrium with a student commons and cafe, career services center, center for corporate education, auditorium, tiered case study classrooms and team-building breakout rooms.

Completed in 2008, the project finished on time with zero injuries despite the challenging logistics of performing work in a busy, urban campus. Old Dominion Firestopping contracted with ColonialWebb Contractors to perform the work. Gilbane Building Company was the general contractor.

University of Virginia South Lawn

Harrisonburg, VA

Old Dominion Firestopping provided Firestopping services for the University of Virginia’s South Lawn Arts and Sciences Complex. The LEED Gold certified project consists of an interconnected academic building complex with classroom, office, and commons space. The 120,000-square-foot, five-story facility is considered a signature building on campus. It includes a 250-seat commons building lecture hall, classrooms, seminar rooms, student study lounges, computer lab suites, faculty offices, administrative suites, conference rooms and meeting rooms.

The complex features 100-foot-wide terrace across Jefferson Park Avenue connects the South Lawn Project with the Central Grounds. At the south end of the terrace is a circular plaza that sits atop a Commons building, with an exterior stair leading to the garden areas below. Conservatory containing lounge spaces and a café with three-story glass walls is framed by two west-facing porches that serve as entrances to two perpendicular wings of buildings.
